Playgrounds Hiding in Northern Fairfield County
Kids need playgrounds. Whether they’re learning to crawl up ramps or practically sprinting up rope ladders, playgrounds are imperative for kids. Playgrounds give children the opportunity for socialization, problem solving, and help them to make quick risk assessments. After having kids and not having grown up in the area, I needed to learn where the local playgrounds were and fast. And then I moved from one end of Northern Fairfield County to another which gave me a more well rounded view of what is available. Check out the town’s playgrounds for fun free entertainment below.

Bethel
- Meckauer Park. Jungle gym, monkey bars, and a sandbox at this location! More info here
- Parloa Park. Small neighborhood playground. More info here
- Bennet Park is a small playground but a great spot for a party More info here.
Brookfield
- Town Beach Playground. Small playground on the town’s beach. More info here
- Kid’s Kingdom at the Municipal Center playground. Lots of parking, play equipment for toddlers and big kids. Lots of space and soccer fields. More info here
Danbury
- Hatter’s Park. Small playground and swingset by the water. More info here
- Highland Avenue Park (& seasonal water park). More info here
- Kenosia Park playground and large seasonal splash pad park. More info here
- Rogers Park large gated playground and spray pad. More info here.
- Rowan Street Playground. Two structures, some tagged. Swingset and grass to play. More info here
- Toms West Park is a neighborhood park without parking. Directions here
- Candlewood Town Park. Lakeside playground with beach access. Daily passes cost $13 for kids $19 for adults. Passes also available for residents of Danbury. Info here
Monroe
- William E. Wolfe Park. Wooden castle park setup- retro and every kids loves it! More info here
New Milford
- Harrybrooke Park. While there is a swingset and slide calling this one a playground is a stretch. Definitely don’t come here just for the swingset. Its a beautiful park for a walk. More info here
- Youngs Field. Part of the larger Youngs park and also has a skate park on the grounds. More info here
Newtown
- Dickinson Memorial Park. Whether you live in Newtown or nearby this one is a destination. Lots of playground equipment and unique stations. More info here
- Treadwell Memorial Park. Large fields, spray park, and an outdoor pool. More info here
Redding
- Putnam Memorial State Park has a large playground and picnic area. More info here.
Ridgefield
- Imagination Station at Ballard Park. More info here
- The Sky’s the Limit at the Recreation Center. Swings, lowered money bars, adaptive swings. More info here
Patterson
Right over the border from New Fairfield/Danbury is another playground not to be missed, especially if you live on the border.
